Manaus Levamicil

Levamicil of the brand Manaus is a very effective medicine against diseases caused by nematodes (roundworms). It is possible to use this medicine in both, freshwater- and saltwater aquariums.
All types of ornamental fish can become infested with roundworms. Nematodes mainly infect the gut and abdominal cavity of fish. These parasitizing worms irritate or possibly perforate (pierced) the intestinal wall of the infected fish and subsequently cause inflammation with a fatal outcome.

Most nematode infections in fish are caused by hairworms (Capillaria sp.) and Camallanus cotti. In Discus fish, Oxyuridae sp. (also called Discus Madenwurm in German) which also belongs to the nematodes. Levamicil Against Nematodes is based on the highly effective Levamisole Hydrochloride.

These parasitic infections are responsible for a slow wilting of the animal until death follows. Young fish and smaller fish species die from the parasites after a short time in case of massive infestation. Breeding pairs should be freed from these nematodes by treatment with Levamicil if there is a proven infection (at the latest before spawning).

Levamicil does not discolor the aquarium water.

How do I know my fish is sick?

Making the correct diagnosis is often the success for a quick healing. Many fish diseases are highly contagious and spread quickly in the aquarium water. It is therefore very important that you can treat the fish quickly. There are mostly early signs to warn you if something is not okay with your fish, only you have to recognize them.

Skin: the skin is the first protection and defense system and shows usually also the first signs of a disease or deficiency due to an infection. You should keep a close eye on any discoloration.

Fins: pay attention to the fins. When the fish keeps his fins close to the body than this is often an indication of a disease or deficiency. Especially with viviparous fish.

Swimming Behavior: Unusual swimming or wiggling behavior can be characteristic for the presence of a disease.

Symptoms Nematodes:

The symptoms that fish show with a hairworm infection can be very different. Infections by Capillaria sp. are the easiest to confirm by microscopic examination of Nematode eggs in the droppings when suspected.

– Red worms hanging from the fish’s anus, but they can also hang on the abdominal
– Slimy feces
– No appetite
– Swollen abdomen, as well as shy/jumpy behaviour

How do I use Levamicil?

Standard dosage:
1st day: Waterchange 50% before starting the treatment, 1ml per 20 liter of aquarium water.
6th day: Waterchange of 80%, 1ml per 20 liter of aquarium water.
12th day: Waterchange of 80%.

* Read leaflet before use.

** During the treatment, no active filter media (such as activated carbon, nitrate resin, etc.) may be used in the filter. This is to prevent the medicines from being filtered out of the aquarium.

If there is cloudiness during the treatment of the aquarium water due to bacterial blooms and a related lack of oxygen, the treatment should be interrupted by a major water change of 80%.
