The Breeding cave calvus open were originally specially developed for breeding cichlids from Guinea (Altolamprologus Calvus).
Because these caves are open at the backside, they are also extremely suitable as a crack cave for other aquarium residents who love tight spaces, such as young L-numbers.
It is possible to use the cave in standing or lying down position. Also it is possible to easy stack them if necessary. Standing, there must be a surface where you can press the cave easily into, otherwise it can easily fall over due to the ratio of floor space to height.
What is a breeding cave?
Breeding caves are used as a breeding- and hiding spot for plecos, catfishes, shrimps and crayfish. In addition, they also offer shelter for eggs and babies.
Breeding caves can be manufactured out of different materials and can have different shapes and sizes, depending on the animals needs in shelter and breeding.
Material and manufacturing
All our breeding caves are handmade products, manufactured from fired clay (1090 °C). Therefore small differences in size and appearance are possible. Of course it is taken care that the outside measurements and the entrance diameter fit the ordered product.
Due to the nature of the material, the surface of the cave is slightly rough, which benefits the adhesive characteristics of most fish eggs without damaging the egg shells. This also minimalizes the eggs risk of getting washed out of the cave.

The size may vary as it is a handmade product. Each item is therefore unique!
In addition, it is also possible to order other sizes or color of the breeding cave calvus open. Even special caves, other than the standard measurements is possible.
