Octocil of the brand Manaus is a very effective medicine against intestinal flagellates and ‘Hole-in-the-head’ disease. This product is also the most suitable medication for the treatment of community aquariums with many different fish species. All shrimps tolerate the medicine well.

Octocil can cause discolorations of the aquarium water.

 

How do I know my fish is sick?

Making the correct diagnosis is often the success for a quick healing. Many fish diseases are highly contagious and spread quickly in the aquarium water. It is therefore very important that you can treat the fish quickly. There are mostly early signs to warn you if something is not okay with your fish, only you have to recognize them.

Skin: the skin is the first protection and defense system and shows usually also the first signs of a disease or deficiency due to an infection. You should keep a close eye on any discoloration.

Fins: pay attention to the fins. When the fish keeps his fins close to the body than this is often an indication of a disease or deficiency. Especially with viviparous fish.

Swimming behavior: Unusual swimming or wiggling behavior can be characteristic for the presence of a disease.

Symptoms worms:

– Holes in the head region

– Lose weight
– Shy

When recognizing the above symptoms, it is important to treat the fish quickly, so that further weakening of the animals by the parasites is prevented. If possible, confirm the diagnosis with the aid of a microscopic examination.

How do I use Octocil?

1st day: Waterchange 50% before starting the treatment, 1 ml per 20 liters of aquarium water.
6th day: End of treatment, big waterchange of minimum 80%.

Octocil should not be used in combination with other products.
It is important that no active filter media (such as activated carbon, nitrate resin, etc.) are used in the filter during the treatment. This is to prevent the medicines from being filtered out of the aquarium. During the treatment the aquarium filter must continue to run and a good flow of the water in the aquarium is guaranteed, so that the medicine can optimally distribute itself in the aquarium.
It is also important that there is sufficient oxygen or flow in the aquarium water during treatment with this medication. This can be done, for example, by adding air stones.
The water temperature should not exceed 29 °C.

 

After 2 – 3 days of starting treatment, increasing healing occurs. It is then important for the treatment success that the animals resume food intake, so that the gastrointestinal tract of the sick fish becomes active again.
By absorbing food into the treatment water, the medicines reach the pathogens even better.
The symptoms may disappear in the days after the end of treatment. If the treatment has not helped sufficiently, the treatment can be repeated in persistent cases after a treatment interruption of one week.

In exceptional cases, water cloudiness occurs during the treatment due to bacterial growth and associated oxygen deficiency. In that case the
treatment should be interrupted with a major water change of 80%.
