White spot, coarse spot or import spot (Ichthyophthirius multifiliis)
- Small white dots:

this could be due to irritation. - Clamped fins:
fins held close to the body. - Seclusive behavior:
the fish may start to hide and become less active. - Fast breathing:
the fish may have problems with breathing (rapid gill movements). - Loss of appetite:
this often occurs in a later stage of the infection.
Velvet disease or pepper spot/black spot (Oodinium spp.):
- Gray and yellow brown haze:
the fish is covered with a gray or yellow-brown haze with tiny gold-colored dots at first. (in pepper spot or black spot these are small black or darker dots on the skin and fins). - Mucus:
there may be mucus all over the body. - Rubbing/scratching against objects or the bottom of the aquarium:
this could be due to irritation. - Clamped fins:
fins held close to the body. - Seclusive behavior:
the fish may start to hide and become less active. - Fast breathing:
